Hungry Caterpillars!
Over the last 2 weeks we have been reading ‘The Very Hungry Caterpillar’.
We have researched different types of caterpillars: hairy ones, spiky ones, short fat ones, long thin ones, green ones…….and even a rainbow one!
We used the internet, information books and photos to gather information on which type of butterfly or moth the caterpillars will turn into.
We ventured out to Forest school to investigate all the different food available for the caterpillars to eat.
We prepared a wonderful variety of “caterpillar catering” with what we were able to find for them in Forest School as we had found out that they need to eat a lot to eat in order to have enough energy to metamorphosize into a butterfly or moth.
We then matched the caterpillar to the butterfly using the identification chart we made and chose one to recreate the pattern.
We also made beautiful ‘double’ butterflies!
